Vignes Balasingam

Vignes Balasingam is a curator and photographer. He is the founder of OBSCURA Festival of Photography, one of the most vibrant and inclusive festivals in the Asia-Pacific which concerns itself with the understanding and application of the photographic idiom in a local and regional context. Through the festival he has directed important programmes for the region, including the Young Curators Programme, where the festival works with young and upcoming photographers from the region to curate the festival. He also written two large educational programmes which gave birth to the Southeast Asian Photographers’ Masterclass and the Visual Anthropology Masterclass. He co-edited and published Ian Teh’s third monograph, Confluence. He has sat in as jury for the POPCAP Contemporary African Photography Prize 2015 * 2016, the KL Photo Awards 2016 and the BJP’s Open Walls. He has curated for the Chennai Photo Biennale 2016, the Jeon-ju Photo Festival 2017 and Photo Zürich 2017.
